Frequently asked questions

Travel Agency questions, answered

Real answers from a local Nags Head travel agency crew — no fluff, no upsell.

Do we fly into the Outer Banks or drive?

Most of you drive the last stretch. The airport at Manteo is a general aviation and commuter field, not a hub for most travelers, so the usual arrival is Norfolk International or Wilmington International and then a drive across the Wright Memorial Bridge. We plan that drive as part of the trip — the bridge on a Saturday in July is not a detail you can leave to the afternoon.

How far ahead should we book in July compared with December?

Much further ahead in July. The Outer Banks tourism board counts July inside a three-month peak season, and it puts almost 60% of paid-accommodation revenue into that stretch, so the good houses in Nags Head, Kitty Hawk and Corolla go early. December is quiet, cheaper, and more available. Same house, same week of the year, very different booking calendar.

What does a vacation rental management agreement actually cover?

Booking and marketing the house, cleaning and turnover, arrival instructions and key handoff, maintenance response during a stay, and the money — fees, expenses and reporting. Read the exclusions too: owner visits, long-term leases, and the weeks you want the house yourself are usually not included. A management agreement that answers the awkward questions is worth more than a lower monthly rate.

Should we buy travel insurance for an Outer Banks trip?

Travel insurance is governed in North Carolina by G.S. Chapter 58, Article 44B, and any pre-existing-condition exclusion has to be disclosed to you before you purchase, not buried in the policy you already bought. For a barrier island trip, read the hurricane and evacuation terms specifically. Whether you buy it is your call — our job is making sure you see the terms before you pay.

Is it cheaper to book direct than through an agency?

It depends on the trip, and we will tell you when direct is the better deal. A single hotel night or a standard rental house is often cheaper direct. An agency earns its keep when there is coordination involved: a ferry crossing, a room block, a family arriving on three different flights, a storm contingency, or a house that is booked and managed by the same desk.

What areas do you serve?

Nags Head, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Southern Shores, Duck, Corolla and Manteo, and south to Hatteras, Buxton, Avon, Waves, Salvo, Rodanthe, Manns Harbor and Frisco. We also plan trips that include Wilmington's historic downtown and Riverwalk, Myrtle Beach, or a change of scenery in the Blue Ridge high country. Ask us about Ocracoke and the ferry connections too.

/* `bottom-0` + `pb-[env(safe-area-inset-bottom)]` keeps the bar clear of the home indicator on a notched device. The `sm:hidden` is what makes it mobile-only: from 640px up the header carries the number, and two of them on one screen is a duplicate, not a reinforcement. THE BAR IS RENDERED ONLY WHEN THERE IS A NUMBER. A site built for a business with no phone on file (measured 2026-10-21: 19 of the 100 OBX prospects) would otherwise ship a "Call " button whose href is "tel:+1" — a dead link, and a bar that covers the legal disclosure while pointing at nothing. The form is the CTA on those sites. */
