Frequently asked questions

Roofing questions, answered

Real answers from a local Southern Shores roofing crew — no fluff, no upsell.

Why is roofing different on the Outer Banks?

Wind off the sound and ocean lifts shingles every day, salt air corrodes flashing and fasteners, and humid attics trap moisture. A roof built like a mainland roof fails faster here, so we choose materials, fasteners and ventilation for the island.

Do you repair rental-house roofs on a short timeline?

We tell you how soon we can tarp or repair a leak and whether the work needs dry weather to hold. We schedule around your changeover calendar for planned work and tell you plainly when we can’t reach you the same day.

Do you replace the deck when the roof comes off?

Where it is rotted or wet, yes. We inspect the deck during tear-off and replace damaged sections before anything goes over it. The quote includes a deck repair allowance, so a surprise is discussed with you first, not billed after.

Can you install a wind-resistant roof?

Yes. We install to the manufacturer’s specification with fasteners and underlayment suited to salt and wind, and we can talk through the FORTIFIED Roof standard and the grants the NC Insurance Underwriting Association has offered. Ask about current availability before you sign.

What areas do you cover?

Nags Head, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Southern Shores, Duck, Corolla and Manteo, plus the surrounding northern Outer Banks. Ask us about Hatteras Island, Avon or Buxton, since travel time and scheduling depend on the job and the time of year, so ask before you book.

What about your license and insurance?

North Carolina treats a contractor on a job of $40,000 or more as a general contractor under G.S. 87-1, and you should ask any roofer for license and insurance details in writing. Ask us when you request the quote. We give a written quote before work starts.

Still have a question?

The fastest answer is a quick phone call. We’re happy to talk through your situation at no charge.

/* `bottom-0` + `pb-[env(safe-area-inset-bottom)]` keeps the bar clear of the home indicator on a notched device. The `sm:hidden` is what makes it mobile-only: from 640px up the header carries the number, and two of them on one screen is a duplicate, not a reinforcement. THE BAR IS RENDERED ONLY WHEN THERE IS A NUMBER. A site built for a business with no phone on file (measured 2026-10-21: 19 of the 100 OBX prospects) would otherwise ship a "Call " button whose href is "tel:+1" — a dead link, and a bar that covers the legal disclosure while pointing at nothing. The form is the CTA on those sites. */
