Catering events inside Cape Hatteras National Seashore

Catering events inside Cape Hatteras National Seashore: one park rulebook from Nags Head to Ocracoke, equipment vendors holding a $350 CUA, no amplified music, and the state's food permit underneath.

The seashore is not one beach but a jurisdiction: every mile of sand south of the town of Nags Head down through Hatteras Island to Ocracoke, all of it National Park Service ground with one wedding rulebook. Catering inside it means knowing exactly which activities belong to the park, which to the state, and which to the vendors who hold the park's own authorizations.

Where the rules reach: Seashore beaches south of Nags Head — the beaches south of the town of Nags Head on Bodie Island, and on Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands, lie within the seashore, including the beach in front of the hotels, houses and businesses of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, Buxton, Hatteras and Frisco. A couple renting a house in any of those villages and walking their guests to the sand is holding their ceremony in the park, whether or not they planned it that way.

What the park controls: Special Use Permit for all seashore weddings — every wedding and vow renewal needs a Special Use Permit regardless of attendees, sites are for ceremonies only, and the equipment — chairs, arches, small ceremony tables — must be coordinated with a park-approved Commercial Use Authorization holder. The authorization behind those vendors is real money: Wedding equipment CUA application $350 for the wedding-equipment CUA application, a fee that exists because the park runs its own vetting on who may set up on its sand. Clients of those vendors still obtain the wedding permit themselves; the CUA covers the equipment, not the vows.

What the park prohibits is short and absolute: No amplified music, no drones — no electrically amplified music or public address systems, no drones launched or operated, no releases of balloons, confetti, rice or birdseed. A ceremony here is a quiet one by design, and the best versions lean into it: the wind and the water carry a small service better than a speaker stack ever could.

The food runs on the state's rules, inside the park's geography: a temporary food establishment permit at Temporary food establishment permit $75.00 per event, with the outdoor food-handling rules attached — ready-to-cook portions, no on-site salad prep — filed on the county's fifteen-day clock. That is the catering side of the boundary: we answer to Dare County's Environmental Health Specialists for the food and to the park's permit conditions for everything we bring, and in years of events the two have never actually conflicted.

The administrative home of all of it sits on the other island: Park headquarters in Manteo — Park Headquarters at 1401 National Park Drive in Manteo, where the Superintendent's Compendium and the special park use applications are handled. Every permit a seashore wedding needs starts or ends its journey in Manteo, which is worth knowing when a vendor says they handle the park — the ones who do can tell you exactly which desk answers.

Bring us your seashore date and village and we will bring the permitted kitchen — ceremony service that fits the rules, and a dinner plan for wherever the reception actually lives.

/* `bottom-0` + `pb-[env(safe-area-inset-bottom)]` keeps the bar clear of the home indicator on a notched device. The `sm:hidden` is what makes it mobile-only: from 640px up the header carries the number, and two of them on one screen is a duplicate, not a reinforcement. THE BAR IS RENDERED ONLY WHEN THERE IS A NUMBER. A site built for a business with no phone on file (measured 2026-10-21: 19 of the 100 OBX prospects) would otherwise ship a "Call " button whose href is "tel:+1" — a dead link, and a bar that covers the legal disclosure while pointing at nothing. The form is the CTA on those sites. */
